The Sprinkler Got Me!

Thought that would peak your interest! I was out the door running this morning at 7:05. This is how I have been doing it: .5 mile warm up, 1 timed mile and .5 mile cool down. This morning half way through my timed mile, I got totally doused by a misaligned sprinkler... word to the wise: do not assume that everyone is watering their LAWNS... some folks apparently like to water their sidewalks as well! Anyway, I considered stopping. After all, I think getting totally creamed by your neighbor's sprinkler would have been a fabulous excuse. However, I decided it might keep me cooler and pressed on! I'm glad I did... my timed mile was run/walked in 12:05. Which, you may recall is quite an improvement over last time! I do fear, however, that at this rate, I may be the only one walking the 5K on Labor Day Weekend! Girls, I expect you to be at the finish line lifting a sister up in prayer if you finish without me. (Which I fully expect you to do if you can totally dust me!) Anyway...

I too, have been considering goals and decided this morning that I HAD to conquer this 1 mile thing! I am such a total wimp that if I begin to feel slightly uncomfortable, I just start walking. I must stop the madness. So, my new short term goal is to run my full mile without stopping by September 2. I am also going to start alternating my above mentioned 2 mile routine with a 3 mile "distance" run starting next week. In addition to getting past that "1 mile thing", I also have to start thinking about the fact that I am actually going to have to go 3 miles in the very near future! Hopefully, I will actually be RUNNING them! :) Run, April, Run! And you too, Lauren... and Anna! ;)

I'm a wimp, too, Joeli! I haven't felt any side-stiches or pains, but I really can't stand it when I am breathing heavy -- I feel like I'm just totally out of shape (which I am!), so I immediately stop running and/or start thinking, "oh, God, help me finish this thing, I'm so tired, so tired ..."

I'm glad we're all in the same boat -- and NO, you will not be the only one walking and running at our Labor Day event!
